A switch on the side moves between LED, off and UV. The LED lights up whatever you are looking at, and the UV setting is meant for the security marks on banknotes. Kids enjoy it for insects, salt grains and their own fingerprints, so that a slow afternoon turns into a small science lesson. A soft pouch keeps the lens clean in a bag.
The honest catch from our review: treat it as a fun, low-cost magnifier, not a lab instrument. The focus wheel took some fiddling to get sharp. Once it was sharp, it showed more detail than the naked eye. The unit for sale is the black and orange one in our review photos. The product photos show the silver version of the same model.
