Power cuts at home and dark campsites both call for a light that does not need the grid. The Gold Collapsible Solar Camping Lantern charges from the sun or a cable and folds down to 13.5 cm for packing. This unit was filmed on camera and inspected before listing, which is why it costs less than new.
Pull the top up and it telescopes to 19 cm, and the main light switches on with a click. A second flashlight head flips open for a focused beam, and both can run at the same time. The gold metallic finish and double-layered glass look better than the price suggests, and the wire handle lets you hang it in a tent or on a porch. In our review the solar panel even trickle-charged from indoor light.
The honest catch from our review: the light is a soft, local glow. It is enough to see by up close, but not enough to light a whole room or tent. The USB output charged earbuds but would not charge a phone. The box also pictures extra cables, and only one charging cable was inside.
